Towny lets players form towns, protect land, manage residents, and cooperate through nations. Town permissions and upkeep help communities control who can build and interact inside claimed land.
Important concepts
- A resident is an individual player.
- A town is a group of residents with claimed land and a mayor.
- A townblock is one claimed Minecraft chunk.
- A plot is a townblock assigned or sold to a resident.
- A nation is a group of towns.
Creating and joining towns
/town new <name>
/town add <player>
/accept
/town leave
Creating a town can require money. Use /towny prices before creating or expanding one.
Town information and money
| Command | Description |
|---|---|
/town | View your town. |
/town <name> | View another town. |
/resident | View your resident information. |
/town list | List towns. |
/town deposit <amount> | Deposit money into the town bank. |
/town spawn | Teleport to your town spawn. |
/towny prices | View current town and claim costs. |
Town banks may pay upkeep. Keep enough money deposited and check the town screen for current values.
Claiming land
Stand in the wilderness chunk you want to claim, next to existing town land, then use:
/town claim
Mayors and authorized town ranks can unclaim with /town unclaim. Use /towny map to display nearby claims in chat. Chunk borders can be checked with Minecraft's normal chunk-border display where supported.
Do not claim land to trap, surround, or harass another player.
Resident plots
Town staff can mark a plot for sale while standing inside it:
/plot forsale [price]
A resident can purchase it with /plot claim. Use /plot unclaim to return your owned plot to the town when allowed.
Permissions
Towny controls four main actions: building, destroying, using items, and using switches. Mayors can configure permissions for residents, allies, and outsiders.
Use /town and follow the available /town set or /town toggle help before changing permissions. Enabling public access or PvP can materially affect the entire town.
Nations
Town mayors can create or join nations when enabled:
/nation new <name>
/nation add <town>
/nation
Nation creation, membership, taxes, and war behavior depend on current Moss configuration.
